Songs for Newport

William Cummings Peters established his music publishing company in Cincinnati, across the Ohio from Newport, in 1851. Peters published regional music (including the works of Stephen Foster) and compiled or composed music his own music. The Louisville March and Quick Step is a good example of mid-nineteenth century parlor music of the Ohio Valley; The Frankfurt Belle may well have resonated in the large German populations of both Cincinnati and Newport. Both pieces were published in 1849.
