At first glance this Whig ticket for the 1844 election appears quite “modern” with its emphasis on the policy platform of Henry Clay and his Vice Presidential running mate, Theodore Frelinghuysen. The irregular edges suggest, however, that it was cut from a larger sheet, perhaps a broadside where advertising was far more common. In any event this was signed, accepted as a proper ticket, and counted, again as evidenced by the spindle markings.
